… via Zoom!
As is customary with many of the artists in residence at Villa Il Palmerino, the cultural association hosted an exhibition of work completed during the residency. Due to the outbreak of the COVID 19, strict rules were in place and it was decided to hold the exhibition virtually.
The event was set up in zoom and attracted an audience from all over the world, including friends and patrons, art lovers, and previous artists and writers who had been at Palmerino in the past.
First, everyone was welcome to the the exhibition and a virtual walk through of the gallery was presented. The walk through is below as if you had walked into the space. The first two works are by artist Julie Hauser (Ile de Reunion, France), followed by the work of Virginie Houdet (Paris, France), and and then my work, including a peek into some sketchbooks.
Each artist then had a chance to speak about the work they did at the residency. A colleague familiar with their work was also given some time to say a bit about the artist. Artist and friend David Drain was kind enough to speak to my work to the audience. While each artist was speaking a slideshow was running that played the work by each artist.
Here is the slideshow of my work:
After each artist was presented, attendees were able to ask questions and make comments. There were also a limited group of socially distanced and mask wearing people at the gallery who joined in a celebratory toast. Afterward there was a concert presented in the outdoor amphitheater by another resident, singer Dara Kain.It was a great night and my first virtual exhibition. The virus couldn’t crush the camaraderie and spirit of Palmerino. I believe all that gone before at Palmerino were in approval.
