Hand printed rice paper

One of the things I am really trying to incorporate in my work is a sense of transparency and pattern. It often happens when I add pattern the work becomes too busy and then I spend time trying to quiet down the pattern. It’s for this reason I thought it might be interesting to create some patterned and painted papers to use in my collage.

In order to keep the layers a bit transparent I spent some time printing and painting tissue paper and Japanese rice paper popularly used for calligraphy.

I’m not sure what kind of effect the will have on the piece and how transparent the end result will be. I’m also wondering how easy it will be to collage with these thin papers.

Either way I love the process and experimentation, it’s all part of the journey!
