About this Gallery

This year brought about big change in the use of materials. At the beginning of the year I was still using burlap and fiber as collage elements that would offer texture to my paintings. I was able to crystalize that my fascination with burlap had to do with the material in it’s natural form. I began to work with burlap independent of a substrate or heavy layers of paint. The change has been liberating and I begin deeper exploration to the burlap itself and all that it has to offer as a tool of expression.

  • Continued use of burlap and texture materials in the early part of the year
  • Curiosity about using the materials in their natural form
  • Exploration of how to use burlap as a material through which to express
  • Questions about how the element of fraying and aging are showing up in the work and what they may represent
