About this Gallery

This year brought about big change in the use of materials. At the beginning of the year I was still using burlap and fiber as collage elements that would offer texture to my mixed media paintings. I realized that my fascination with burlap was more about the material in it’s natural form. I began to work with burlap independent of a substrate or heavy layers of paint. The change has been liberating and I begin deeper exploration to the burlap itself and all that it has to offer as a tool of expression.

  • Big switch in the function of  burlap from a collage element into being the substrate
  • Curiosity about using the materials in their natural form
  • Broke free from painting over the burlap
  • Questions about how the element of fraying and aging are showing up in the work and what they may represent
