About this Gallery

This collection of  work was the gateway into exploring the use of fabric, tissue and extreme texture in my work.

My interest in transparency, fabrics and layered painting techniques traces back to my years as a textile artist. I recently stumbled upon some original fabrics from that period which spoke to the transparencies I searching for in my painting. I immediately saw ways to use those fabrics in my paintings to create a new type of layers.

I not only used and painted the fabric, I also began to stitch into the fabric. This allowed me a new type of line that could not be achieved by other methods. These new techniques worked well with the other materials and layering techniques I had been using, and eventually, I opened up to considering the use of other materials such as gauze and burlap.

All pieces are acrylic mixed media on wood panel.

  • The images “Beauty” and “The Beast” were a direct reaction to the spread of the Cororna Virus in Italy, while I was an artist in residence for 5 months
  • Many of these images  were completed or started while on my artist residency in Florence
  • All images consider free exploration of transparency, form, and use of tissue and fabric
