About this Gallery

Black and white is one of the best ways to learn about the elements of designing composition so I often fall back to black and white when I want to sharpen my skills. This gallery displays a variety of interests when working this way including line, movement, variety, shape, scale, texture, transparency. This work was created on paper with acrylic paint, pencil, marker, brushes, squeeze bottles, and brayers

  • Black and white remains one of the best ways to clearly see the formal elements of design
  • Playing within constraints (for example, working only with line)
  • These studies can be done over and over with renewed benefits
