The “Seeking Spirit and Memories” series explores themes of resilience and reflection, responding to the breakdown of human decency and its social and political consequences. The work channels feelings of frustration and fear into a more hopeful and spiritual expression.

Though the pieces still retain a worn and broken character, they suggest an unbroken spirit that can transcend difficult experiences to create something of beauty and value. The artist uses lightweight fabrics to symbolize both spiritual ascension and personal history, connecting the work to childhood memories, such as the window curtains in a grandmother’s home.

Photography by Thomas Halfmann. With grateful thanks for capturing many of these works.
